Fire Monitor ( ATH 4 ) , also known as a Fire Water/ Foam Monitor , is a type of firefighting system installed in various locations so that, in the event of a fire, firefighters can connect their hoses to the main hydrant outlet for water supply. The fire hydrant is directly connected to the regional water supply and is installed in different settings such as industrial and mining facilities, educational premises, roadways, and commercial parking areas. This ensures that, during a fire, firefighters can rapidly commence fire suppression using a direct water source.
These hydrants are generally categorized into two main types, above-Ground (Surface) Hydrants – Standing hydrants installed above the ground surface and underground Hydrants – Sub-surface hydrants installed below ground level.
