Foam System Use in High-Risk Areas

A Foam System (or Foam Fire Suppression System) is typically used to fight Class B fires in high-risk areas such as flammable liquid warehouses, aircraft hangars, fuel storage tanks, and paint booths. The choice of firefighting foam depends on the flammable material involved, and it can be designed as either manual (monitors, mobile foam units, turbo mixers, and nozzles) or automatic (sprinkler networks, foam chambers, and more). By adding foam tanks and specialized equipment to water-based sprinkler networks (wet, dry, deluge, or pre-action), these networks are converted into a combined water-and-foam suppression system.

How a Foam Fire Suppression System Forms Firefighting Foam

The foam is created by mixing water with foam concentrate at a defined ratio. Once air is introduced into this mixture, it forms a high-volume, bubble-like structure that, because of its large expansion rate, spreads easily across the surface of the burning material blocking oxygen and suppressing the vapors released by the fire.
